Nian the Monster(part2) - Spring Couplets and Firecrackers
Years after, people finally found out what were its weaknesses, red, lights and loud voice! Then the following Chinese New Year's Eve, people collected lots of bamboo, and hung red clothes on their doors. While Nian approached the village, people started burning the bamboos. That made really loud noise. Then all the houses were light up and had red on it. Nian finally couldn't stand it anymore, so it ran away and never came back. After this, people started doing these things as traditions every year.
That's why now the people hanging spring couplets and burning firecrackers. (Sometimes Chinese New Year's Eve even means firecrackers / fireworks night for me😛)
And people write some sentences that they believe would bring good luck to family on the spring couplets now. And we paste them on the front door.
